Article Marketing Q&A's

(Disclaimer: I don’t read Cosmo)

Since so much of Cosmo’s relationship advice, or things about how to get a guy to notice you, why do women all write those columns? Wouldn’t it be more informative (and revealing) if readers got some real perspectives from men themselves?

  1. Fried Kitten Says:

I once looked through a Cosmopolitan.
It gave advice to women about the types of men to avoid.
The criteria for a “bad boyfriend” were ridiculously unfounded.
It pre-judged a man’s character on flimsy criteria.

It is incredible how poor the advice given by the magazine really was.
To think that a woman may avoid a guy based upon criteria
obtained from a magazine. How ridiculous.

  2. Dior Says:

there are columns in that magazine written my men but a lot of them are written by women. ON the flip side, most of the photograps in the magazine are taken by male photographers so i guess it evens out. Anyway those girly magazines are crap – they dont represent what most women really think about life in general. I never take the advice of magazines like cosmo – I prefer news type magazines

  3. Brianiac Says:

If any woman truly knew the way to a mans heart, they wouldn’t need an article called "What not to do in a relationship"

  4. The Passenger Says:

The only requirement for writing an article for Cosmo is that you have no brain. Brainless men are just as welcome to submit articles for publication as brainless women. Just make sure all submissions appeal to their brainless readers.

  5. The Man Says:

I had EXACTLY the same thought the other day when I noticed a typical "BAD relationship advice" article written by a woman called "10 ways to please your man".

    Funny.

Not ONE of those 10 ways recommended:

"JUST ASK YOUR MAN….. AND WHEN HE ANSWERS —>> DO IT."

Every single one of those articles is fully of CRAPPY female programming.

  6. Tehab waaaaaah! Says:

Evul menz can not be writings for a superiorous womyns magazines. We womyn of superiorousism am needing a superiorical pint of voo. And no evul menz can be doing that like a superioristic womyn.

  7. Cordi Says:

I hate that magazine. It’s supposed to be for women but it’s so sexist and demeaning to us. Every headlined article is something like "10 ways to give your guy a great time in bed", "how to fit into your skinny jeans in 2 weeks", "what men find most attractive", "how to give him the best sex he’s ever had", "what men really want in a girlfriend". Gag me. I thought we realized that we could be more than just blowup doll accessories now.

  8. Roger Says:

Well idk about you but I’d have better things to write about. Look at the science/tech magazines and it’s male dominated afa I can see. Fashion/celebs/weight loss/tv/movie is usually the female dominated areas of the media/pop culture because they centre around rumors, gossip and drama.

  9. Rio Madeira Says:

They actually have an entire section devoted to the male perspective. In the world of Cosmo, it’s never far removed from the female perspective.

  10. Alex Muntaz Says:

Absolutely, have you seen that Cracked article regarding their sex ‘advice’??

Still, I’m more infuriated how it’s not so cosmopolitan as they claim. I read more exciting things happening in different cultures (woman-wise for example, like opening geisha schools in Barcelona, the different varieties of belly dancing according to countries, or even ‘what’s happening in this ethnic neighborhood during Kwanzaa/Hannukah/All Hallow’s Eve’.

Seriously, either live up your magazine’s name, or don’t. At least use more ethnic models in your dozens of perfume/hair ads for Chrissakes!

  11. Untamed Rose... Says:

Disclaimer: I don’t read Cosmo either…but a quick look at their "Who’s who" has several male names on there…or at least IDK any female John’s or Brian’s http://www.cosmopolitan.com/about/cosmo-masthead

  12. John Says:

because that would mean they understand a woman

  13. GorJess (ATTM) Says:

Cosmopolitan (and Glamour, among others) are absolute garbage. Luckily I realized this early on in life. Now at 29, I hate to think that I could have possibly based the majority of my opinions and lifestyle choices for the past 12-15 years on such self-obsessed incessant drivel.

There is one women’s lifestyle magazine that I read occasionally that I love – Marie Claire. Compared to other reads of the same genre, it includes all the ‘good’ stuff (fashion trends, health & beauty tips, feature article on the cover model, latest books/movies/music) and leaves out all the ‘bad’ stuff (celebrity gossip that no one cares about, model comparisons to show you how you’ll never be good enough, suggestions of demeaning behavior that will please everyone but yourself)… on top of all that it also includes things of actual interest/intellect, like articles on current world issues (especially those effecting women). It really is an ‘accept yourself, you are beautiful, be happy’ kind of magazine.

Women that actually follow the sort of articles you suggested are seriously lacking in one or more of the following – a brain; common sense.

  14. Geology Rock Star Says:

How do you know it’s a woman writing those columns, it could be a man using a woman’s name

  15. Instant Star is Mrs Mojo Risin Says:

I gotta agree with Jess, however I do like flipping through Cosmo ever so often for their juicy sex articles.

    I usually laugh…
